This is the personal blog of Damian Eastwood. I am an Englishman living in Slovakia. The title of my blog comes from the fact that many people who visit Slovakia never venture further than Bratislava, the capital city.
Slovakia is a small country of natural beauty right at the heart of Europe. It has been my home since 2013. One doesn’t need to travel far from Bratislava to find stunningly beautiful forests, mountains and lakes. It is populated by friendly people, many of whom speak English. It is a great place for hiking, cycling, skiing, kayaking or just sitting by the Danube with a cold beer.

This blog serves no other purpose than to give me an opportunity to write about the many people and things that I am interested in. I love being outdoors, I love cycling in the forests and mountains near my home. I love playing guitar, singing and writing songs.
I am interested in everything but especially history, philosophy, science, and technology. I am interested in politics but not politicians. I am fascinated by the theory and practice of learning, I am an instructional technology enthusiast and I love teaching conversational English.
I sing in a band and maintain the band’s website. I cook, clean, keep house and look after my wife who works very hard.
I have been trying to learn the Slovak language on and off for some years and I am interested in Slovak history and culture.
When I am not directly involved in one or more of the above activities I enjoy writing about them. That is what this blog is for.
